Challenge Accounts

FTMO currently offers two evaluation products: FTMO Challenge: 1-Step and FTMO Challenge: 2-Step. Both use simulated trading accounts with fictitious funds. The 1-Step Challenge has one evaluation phase, while the 2-Step Challenge uses a Challenge phase followed by Verification. Traders can choose account balances in USD, GBP, EUR, CZK, CAD, AUD or CHF.

The FTMO Challenge fee is a one-time fee. For the 2-Step Challenge, the fee is refunded with the first reward withdrawal after successfully reaching an FTMO Account. For the 1-Step Challenge, the fee is not refunded after passing.

FTMO Account Currencies

FTMO account sizes are not USD-only. Traders can choose their simulated account currency from USD, GBP, EUR, CZK, CAD, AUD and CHF. The account balance selected during the FTMO Challenge carries through to the FTMO Account after passing, and trading objectives scale as a percentage of that selected balance.

Evaluation Products

1 FTMO Challenge: 2-Step

The 2-Step Challenge is FTMO's classic evaluation model. It has a 10% target in the Challenge phase and a lower 5% target in Verification. It is available as either Standard or Swing, making it the better option for traders who need Swing conditions, weekend holding flexibility on the FTMO Account, or a refundable challenge fee.

2 FTMO Challenge: 1-Step

The 1-Step evaluation is a single-phase challenge. The Maximum Daily Loss is 3% and the Maximum Loss is 10% end-of-day trailing, based on the highest end-of-day balance or initial balance (whichever is higher).

FTMO does not set a fixed minimum trading day requirement for the 1-Step Challenge, but the Best Day Rule affects how quickly it can realistically be passed. The most profitable day cannot exceed 50% of Positive Days' Profit when passing the challenge or qualifying for a reward.

The 1-Step Challenge is Standard only and does not offer Swing conditions.

Scaling Plan

FTMO's Scaling Plan increases account balance by 25% per scale-up. To qualify, traders must complete a minimum 4-month cycle, achieve at least 10% total net simulated profit in the 4-month trading window, have at least 2 rewards processed, and maintain a positive balance at time of scale-up.

Traders can reach a maximum FTMO Account allocation of $400,000 or equivalent before scaling. The Scaling Plan can grow accounts up to $2,000,000 or equivalent. 2-Step rewards start at 80% and the Scaling Plan upgrades to 90%.

FTMO does not set a fixed limit on the number of FTMO Challenge accounts, but it applies a maximum FTMO Account allocation before scaling. This limit is $400,000 or the currency equivalent across active FTMO Accounts.

Account merging

FTMO Accounts can only be merged if they use the same base currency, are not in drawdown, have no reward due for withdrawal, and come from the same product type. 1-Step FTMO Accounts cannot be merged with 2-Step FTMO Accounts.

The selected account currency carries through the account setup, so scaling and merging should be treated as currency-equivalent figures where the account is not in USD.

Premium Programme

FTMO's Premium Programme can work alongside the Scaling Plan. Traders who qualify through the 1-Step Challenge can reach Prime Status, but the 1-Step route has a more limited set of Premium Programme benefits than the 2-Step route. Supreme Status requires an active $400K FTMO Account or equivalent, subject to FTMO's account-size and merging rules.

Other Rules

News Trading

News trading is allowed during the Evaluation Process. On Standard FTMO Accounts, traders cannot open or close trades on targeted instruments within 2 minutes before or after selected high-impact news releases. Swing accounts are exempt from selected news restrictions. The 1-Step Challenge is Standard only, so Swing news flexibility is available only through the 2-Step Challenge.

Weekend & Overnight Holding

Weekend and overnight holding are allowed during the Evaluation Process. On FTMO Accounts, weekend and overnight holding is available on Swing accounts. Standard FTMO Accounts must follow the relevant holding restrictions.

Trade Access

Only the client may access and perform simulated trades. Third parties cannot trade for you or manage your account.

Phase Evaluation

FTMO will not evaluate a phase until all simulated trades and pending orders are closed.

Multiple Accounts

The total FTMO Account allocation across accounts held by the trader or affiliated parties cannot exceed $400,000 or equivalent before scaling.

Automation

FTMO supports automation tools such as EAs on supported platforms, but trading remains subject to FTMO's forbidden trading practices and risk management rules.

Account Modification

FTMO allows some platform or account modifications only at specific stages. Traders can switch platforms between MT4, MT5 and cTrader after completing a stage or after a reward cycle, depending on product type. Leverage cannot be changed after account setup. The 1-Step Challenge does not offer Swing, so account type changes to Swing are not available on 1-Step.

Platform changes are not available during active trading progress or on Free Trial accounts.

Simulated environment: All FTMO Challenge accounts are simulated accounts with fictitious funds. Trading is not in real financial instruments. FTMO is an educational and technology-driven company, not a broker.

Verdict on FTMO Challenges

FTMO offers two evaluation products: 1-Step and 2-Step. Fees start from €79 for the $10K 1-Step Challenge and €89 for the $10K 2-Step Challenge. Traders can choose account balances in USD, GBP, EUR, CZK, CAD, AUD or CHF. The 2-Step provides a two-phase structure with a 10% Challenge target and 5% Verification target, while the 1-Step uses one evaluation phase with a 10% target, 3% Maximum Daily Loss, end-of-day trailing Maximum Loss and a 50% Best Day Rule. The 2-Step is available as Standard or Swing, while the 1-Step is Standard only.

Commission Fees & Pricing

FTMO uses RAW-style spreads with commission-based pricing on selected instruments. Commission rates vary by symbol and platform, so traders should check live symbol specifications inside their selected platform before trading.
